At the 24 hours of Le Mans endurance competition in France, the Audi SQ5 revealed the TDI performance diesel SUV model which was the first performance diesel SUV that the company offered for the Q5 model range. The diesel engine was chosen to celebrate the achievements and successes of the Audi Racing Team in 24 hours with Le Mans with their diesel powered racing cars. Although the new performance model got a warm reception, many parts of the world couldn't have it because it was a diesel model. After a few months of market research, Audi decided to propose plans for SQ5 - a gasoline-powered SUV that could have been sold in a number of new markets. The new Audi SQ5 has a supercharged engine with over 350 horsepower, a new chassis, exclusive styling and concave load wheels for an added aesthetic advantage.
Under the new Audi SQ5 aluminum housing, a top-loaded 3.0-liter V-6 TFSI engine is both powerful and efficient. The 3.0 TFSI engine has a crankshaft-driven charger located on top of the engine between each cylinder bank that rotates at speeds up to 20,000 rpm and provides a maximum of 1.2 BAR of boost pressure to each cylinder. All standard technologies such as start / stop and heat management are also used to ensure the best fuel and emission standards. The performance engine can send 354 horsepower from 6,000 to 6,500 rpm and 470 nm torque from 4,000 to 4,500 rpm to all four of the concave load wheels.
Like other Audi performance models, the SQ5 has a Quattro four-wheel drive with central differential and Tiptronic eight gearboxes. Quattro wheel drives will also utilize advanced torque vector which slows the front or rear concave truck wheels slightly in the middle of turns to improve handling dynamics.
In the case of the chassis, the Audi has given the SQ5 SUV a new suspension, brakes and wheels. The suspension has double dual fog on the front axle which is lighter than the standard units and sets 20 mm lower for better center of gravity. The brakes were increased in size up to 320 mm discs with sex piston calipers forward for better stopping power. New concave load wheels help create a more muscular stage and measure 20 inches in diameter with 255/45 performance tires for better grip.
The exterior looks visibly more aggressive thanks to new exclusive styling pieces. The front and back each carry a new bumper that improves cooling, thrust and traction. New brands are worn on each fender while new mirrors of mirror aluminum and chrome windows surround. A new rear spoiler helps generate extra power at high speeds and is unique to the Audi SQ5 model.
The new Audi SQ5 will be available worldwide including the North American markets in 2013.
